My Thoughts on the Vent Haven ConVENTion 2011

Posted on Posted in Ventriloquism, Ventriloquist

By now a lot of those who attended the ConVENTion have posted comments on Facebook, Twitter, blogs and other social media sites and I thought I would take the time to write out my thoughts as well.

Most know now that the theme of the ConVENTion was “A Jimmy Nelson Celebration 70 Years of Laughter”. My hat is off to Mark Wade and his crew, they did an overall phenomenal job with this ConVENTion. Most commented that it was the best one they had ever attended and I have to agree. Not only that, it was the highest attended ConVENTion.

Before the ConVENTion I had so many plans, to see old friends, meet some of my Facebook “friends” face-to-face, spend some quality time with some of my clients that were attending and discuss some future ideas about our website with my partner Dan Willinger.

I was able to accomplish some of my items, but not near what I wanted to accomplish. If you’ve ever been to the ConVENTion you’ll know why. Just not enough time. So much is going on that you can’t see everyone, do everything that you want to do in the spare time that you have to do it….even if you only get a few hours sleep a night.

Unfortunately this year I didn’t get to sit in on any lectures because I was using that time to take care of my business (some of my non-vent clients) and to keep updating

One of the things I look forward too at the ConVENTion are the Jr and Sr Open Mikes. It’s great to watch the Jr’s performing and quite a few of them are VERY GOOD! In fact there’s one or two that if they keep going the way they are, everyone will be hearing about them.

An unexpected pleasure for me was meeting two different guys who had acquired my course, “The Ultimate Guide To Building Your Own Ventriloquist Figure, Vol 1“. They both had brought the figures they built and I was quite impressed with the two of them. I’ll be writing more about this in a future blog (as well as showing video). Needless to say I was very humbled by these two guy.

All in all I had a great time at the ConVENTion and the best part was spending time with good friends. I hope to see some of you at the “Ventriloquist Central Birthday Bash” in October.

See you then!
